In the story of “小道消息 (Rumors),” a poor girl named Qin Linlang had to sell her talents and skills with her mother on the streets of the capital city in order to survive. One day, while listening to the lectures of a Confucian scholar outside her home, Qin Linlang impressed the scholar with her intelligence and eagerness to learn. The Confucian scholar offered to teach her and was soon able to see her dedication and hard work. Her gift of writing was undeniable and in the end, the scholar presented Qin Linlang with copies of his commentary on \"The Spring and Autumn Annals\" and his interpretation of \"The Art of War\" as part of her dowry on her wedding day.

Years later, Qin Linlang's husband was falsely accused and sent to prison. Qin Linlang was determined to save her husband no matter what, so she pretended to be insane and asked the prison guard for help. Once inside the prison, she spouted medical knowledge to convince the guard that she was capable of healing her husband's illness. The guard was taken aback and asked how she came to know so much about medicine. Qin Linlang replied, “There are many talented people in this world, how can I not know about medicine?” The guard was moved and wanted to help Qin Linlang's husband escape from prison. However, Qin Linlang refused to support this plan, feeling it was against moral principles. Instead, she wrote a letter to seek help to investigate the truth of her husband's case. Finally, through her efforts, Qin Linlang’s husband was released from prison.

These events were shared within society as \"小道消息 (Rumors)\", spreading Qin Linlang's reputation far and wide. Because of her creation of \"The Collected Works of Master Xun,” she became famous throughout history as people’s favorite. Qin Linlang's story spread throughout the capital city, and earned her wide acclaim and admiration.
